President JL's Katutubo Initiative

Dear Brothers and Batchmates,

Now that the pandemic is behind us, I am back on my outreach programs with a vengeance. This time around, my vision is around providing long-term, sustainable projects to depressed communities in the country.

We recently concluded last Saturday, March 4, a feeding outreach engagement with the abandoned children of Missionaries of Charity in Tagaytay where we helped 17 children needing care and attention.

Now, I would like to seek your help to build something bigger and more sustainable.

For centuries, the most disadvantaged and marginalized sector of our country are the aetas, who are also known as aytas or katutubo. I’ve always been very passionate about the aetas of central Luzon because of the perennial food and water shortages resulting from the poisoning brought about by the Pinatubo eruption in 1991. On top of this, the topography has made their lives vulnerable to a range of natural disasters such as typhoons, floods, and landslides making their survival a constant struggle.

Did you ever notice? Whenever you and your family enjoy a leisurely trip for a vacation in Subic, Pampanga, Bataan or Zambales, our aeta brothers and sisters who used to fend for themselves via hunting in the jungles or farming in the lowlands, have now resorted to peddling trinkets, rainmakers and faux hunting tools just to make ends meet and feed their families. They are on the brink of being wiped out of the face of this planet and they need help.

What can we help them with?

Long term, sustainable, potable drinking water.

I hope I can count on your support to help our brother aetas. Expect to hear from me soon.
